A bit like in great jazz
where the masters
memorize the melody   
until they're able to create
beautiful new melodies
from the original
including vernacular quotes
to the point where
they can play any three notes
and you know what
song they are playing

or as e.e. cummings did
with the melody of language
inventing idiosyncratic grammar
creating his own words
pulling everything
back inside the original
and out the other side
until one look at a page
told you who it was
