I am not a "country music" fan. But one day, I was driving along listening to a "National
Public Radio" program featuring stories about Mickey Newberry and a lot of his music. This day lives on in my memory, and you will soon understand why. I had NEVER heard a "country" singer that impressed me so much as he did. I pulled the car over and listened to several of his songs, then I had to get on to my son's house for a family birthday gathering. Just as I was pulling into the driveway, I was thinking... "Wow! if he ever comes anywhere near the Dallas area, I'm going to HIS concert." Just as I stopped the car, the announcer said something like--"As we close today's program, we would like to express our concern for Mickey's family"-- He had just passed away a few days before. I was literally crying when I went into the house. I had NEVER been so impressed with a singer in such a short time, and so many times I wanted to express my great admiration for him and his music to his family. I still listen to his music and love every song I hear him sing. |
