Subject: | Re: Merry Christmas |
Message: | Christmas Eve 1968. The Space Agency told Frank Borman, "You're going to be going around the moon on Christmas Eve. Think of something to say, don't be silly." William Anders, who took the photo, Earthrise from the small capsule window said, "Frank wasn't a silly person," but, "we were cold warriors, not poets." The words they said brought people out of their homes and into the streets to look up at the sky. Anders, Borman, and Lovell took turns reading from Genesis, "In the beginning God created..." Borman ended it with, "And from the crew of Apollo 8, we close with goodnight, good luck, a Merry Christmas, and God bless all of you - all of you on the good Earth." Merry Christmas and peace on Earth, Bill and Craig...and all the Porch family. (Quotes are from the San Diego Union-Tribune.) |
