Subject: | Art Garfunkel |
Message: | I had an amazing experience last night. I saw Art Garfunkel perform in Milwaukee. It was not a concert, exactly. He sang; he read us poetry/prose/observations he'd written on the back of envelopes; he talked to us about life, the soul, his family, his relationship with Paul Simon, aging, his struggle to overcome a malady that overtook his vocal chords three years ago. And he did a question-an-answer period. It was an intimate crowd... maybe 250 people. I literally had a front row seat. I had tears in my eyes, and sometimes running down my face, during every song. His voice has always had a profound effect on me, but last night I was in a particularly vulnerable mood. He wore his heart on his sleeve and channeled it through his voice. He is still struggling a bit with voice issues, but he's still got it. Still hits the high notes. I imagine seeing Mickey perform in a small venue might have been a very similar experience. Wish I'd had the chance. Erik, he talked about Jimmy Webb quite a bit and said they might be developing some kind of concert/collaboration. No specifics. I am so grateful I had the chance to be there. |
