Sue Ann and I spent a few days searching Austin for a location that will work for our group. It feels exciting to be returning to Austin, I think we all have fond memories of gathering there.
The Crowne Plaza, Austin, 6121 IH 35 No. @ 290 E. has put forth a proposal that we think will work, and I hope you all will agree. If you plan on coming this year, or are considering the possibility, please offer your feedback and concerns. The hotel location is near the old hotel location, but on the other side of the freeway. Heading north on 35, it is immediately past the 290 intersection. Right past the hotel are several restaurants within walking distance including Papadeaux, Pappasitos, Chili's,and China Star Buffet, etc... The hotel has a fabulous restaurant, including ROOM SERVICE until 11pm. The meeting areas we are considering are the lounge area, which we have gotten special exclusive permission to use. It feels very cozy, but is larger that it appears, capacity 160, and they will bring in a dance floor. Please go to the hotel website and check out the photos.
There is also a smaller meeting room the hotel has available for our "Hospitality 155" room.
The hotel does not allow outside catering, but we can bring in "snacks" after room service hours.
The hotel offers a full breakfast buffet including made-to-order omelets until 10am weekdays and 11am sat-sun. The room
rate the hotel offers without breakfast is $79.00 for single, double or quad.
If you would like breakfast included they can do a rate of $89 for
single/double and $99 with breakfast for a quad room.
We can not split the rate as a group. We have to decide to either include the breakfast buffet or not. So let's do a poll in another post. (Breakfast buffet is $12.45 with tax, so if you get up in time it's a good deal, even for 1 person.)
The registration fee will be very nominal, if not free this year since no food will be included, and other expenses can surely be covered by the silent auction/raffle/donations. If we decide to do a group meal at another restaurant off site, we might collect for that, but keep in mind, we can order off the menu at the hotel at a set time all together, either in the lounge (Gathering area) OR in the restaurant next to the lounge.
Ok, that's all I can think of for now. Please ask questions either here or to my email above.
Sue Ann and I appreciate all volunteers to make Gathering XII,'12 fun-for-all, I can hardly wait to see you all! Happy Birthday Leah!
