||Mickey's new(ish) box set has had a splendid review in The Times (one of the UKs most respected daily newpapers). The collection was given a "4 star" rating by the music critic, Will Hodgkinson. He wrote
'Mickey Newbury is the lost man of American country. His sparse, haunting songs became standards, but he remained an elusive figure. As this box set of his three best albums demonstrates, there was nothing showy about Newbury. 'American Trilogy', his medley of civil war anthems, became the centrepiece of Elvis's 1970s Vegas shows. Newbury's original version is far more subdued. Likewise, his self-pitying 1969 masterpiece 'Looks Like Rain' was the key influence on the outlaw country movement, but none of the albums in its wake could match it for inventiveness.'
It's great to see Mickey's supreme originality so well acknowledged in a major (inter)national newspaper.
