Message:  Eleven years ago today, I was hit by a car while crossing the street. As I flew through the air, I thought believed I was going to die, and felt at peace with it. A series of thoughts went through my mind so quickly that morning.(In contrast, when I managed to get hit by another car on Jan. 5 of this year, I have total amnesia of being hit. Strange.)

Anyway, I remember a post Roy made on 9/1/2002, which prompted me to post about my 9/1 experience. Then Ron posted as well about finding the Mickey Newbury community. The day before, Stu and Ro posted a lovely reflection on a visit with Mickey. I love reading those old posts.. they're among the few old blue boards we still can access. For some reason, I feel like reposting a few of those. I hope you enjoy reminiscing.

I was a bad boy today...let the wife take care of the church'n. Two years ago today I found this site and Mickey and all of the wonderful people who rock on the porch. Over that period I have made dozens of new friends, had the opportunity to visit face to face with Mick, enjoyed new music from Mickey and shared some of my music with many of you.

There are those of you who have provided inspiration to me. I hesitate to name names as I know I'll forget someone, but If I do, please forgive. To Randy Dobbs, who taught me about family and caring, to Randy Brown, who shares his art with us all, to Jonmark, for a song that says it all, to Larry Larry for his poems, to Virgina for trying to talk Texan, to Susan W, for the memories, to Karen R for her wit, to Sir William Smith, for dreams of breakfast, Texas Style, to Ernie, for searching all over town for me, to Ski, making me feel like I spell better than someone, to April and Andy for trying to teach me how to use a computer, to Ginny, for being Ginny, to Charlie Day for sharing his dream and his music, to Chris Frazer for his music and wit, to Sweet Bobby for is aid, to Joe Z, for all he does, to Jeff for his labor of love, to Ken S for his music, to Andy whos love of God and His Music overcomes so much, to Mamie for Mick and just being Mamie...there are so many and I know I've left out someone special...but last to Mick for providing us the vehicle that brings us all together.

It's been a great two years...and I look forward to many more.

Love & Light

I wouldn't have said anything, but Roy's post inspired me, as I was sitting here thanking God for what happened to me two years ago today. Two years ago today, I was a pedestrian hit by a car. Flew threw the air and my head missed hitting concrete median by about two inches -- it hit soft, rain soaked grass instead. As I flew through the air, I remember thinking "so this is how I'm going to die, and it's okay, it's all gonna be okay." It was an incredible experience, taking away fear of dying, and causing me to realize just how incredibly quickly things can change, can end and begin. It also left me with the understanding of how important it is to say what you have to say NOW. As they say, you can't count on tomorrow.

So I thank you, too, porch people for your love and friendship. It's meant a lot to me, and changed me forever. I won't risk naming names and forgetting people, except to thank Roy for his post, which made me think to post. Maybe it will help someone. Roy, I'm really glad you're here! I'm glad I'm here, too. : )

It seems to be a day for reflection and a resounding "ditto" to all that's been said. It was 3 years ago after wandering the Newburyless aisles of record and CD stores that I also found this place and the ripple effect of that discovery has enriched my life and put me in touch with many of you. On 8/17 this year, it was the 2nd anniversary of Gathering 2 in Cottage Grove, a weekend forever treasured as the entire Newbury clan opened their hearts to all who were there. Like Stu and Roisin, I have been fortunate enough to have spent a golden afternoon exactly as they wrote..and no one could have written it better. Many artists have fans, many artists even have zealous fans, but no artist anywhere could have more sincere, selfless, or sensitive people who really want only to spread the word about his unique and soul-fulfilling art.

With love, Ron

Got this gang finally fed and tucked in their corners. Was it only yesterday we were sitting on Mick's bed? "Yesterday in another lifetime," Stu says. Drove the 101 up from San Diego. Shining weather and fringed treetops. No fires on the coast. Mick and Susie live at the end of a country road. Right out of one of Eve's paintings. Horses dreaming in the pasture. Roses and chives in the glen. Mick in black silk pajamas eating plums Susie picked from their trees. Plum preserves Susie put up before school cooling on the counter. She's the beautiful magician who wears many hats. Mick laughing. Talking. Life, Love, and Music. His thought process like a flash from a lighthouse window. Occasionally in the middle of a story he'd sing a few words or a line. Time would stop then. Bookmarked. He is always a poet. And Truth. His eyes are blue. His heart and soul are crystal clear. Never said goodbye. Never will. Still sitting in the ale-colored afternoon light of your porch. In our hearts we are. God bless.
