Subject: | An American Trilogy |
Message: | You folks are such a wealth of information! I am amazed that some of you actually knew Mickey Newbury! I am wondering what Mickey thought of Elvis's version of An American Trilogy? Mickey's version was very personal. When I first heard it, and I still hear it that way now, it is a Civil War Southerner singing, then a Northern soldier, then, maybe, a slave. Very personal. For Elvis, it was an anthem. Also very great, very moving. But I don't think that is what Mickey had in mind when he put it together. Anyone know? |
