One of the first things I remember Mickey saying to me, "it'll NEVER be easier to quit than now". I was 20 and lighting up in front of him.

Through the years, we smoked together, often and well. I enjoyed bumming his stubby Camels. He would ocasionally grab one of my menthols and break off the filter.
I tried and failed to quit for decades, and was in a non-smoking period while we were working on the Lulled album. When we got together later that year, and I asked him for a smoke... "Aw pal, I thought you'd laid them down..." and gave me that pouty lip thing he did. He was really dissapointed in me. Still, we lit up. By then, the lines from his oxygen tubes were already leaving permanant furrows in his cheeks.

Those of you who stopped like turning off a faucet, I applaud you. And I do believe you... but my experience was vastly different. Maybe I was just more dedicated to the sport, but stopping for good was one of the most difficult things I've ever done.
