Message:
Since the days of Basquiat and Diaz, it's more
like the words of the "profits" are written on
those walls, in brightly-lit billboard ads. Even
drab poster poems now instead of graffiti, a
Shel Silverstein lyric (Listen To The Mustn'ts)
where before the wild children splashed cryptic
haikus in swift illegal paint, indecipherable,
childish or child-like, occasionally brilliant.
The boxcar taggers' art is alive and well,
judging by the train I saw go by today, swirls
of words and signatures from across the land,
coded messages in transit, "Hello Jane, meet me
in San Francisco."
