You know Ginny...
I've never taken my birthday very seriously. As a matter of fact, not many here are even aware of what day it is since I really don't hold it in high esteem.
Last year, for the first time in my life, I took my birthday off. Not for me, but for a friend. You see, the best friend I have ever had, had his funeral the day before. I had never felt this way before. Sure, I had lost others in my short lifetime but none affected me the way this did.
My wife asked me on my birthday last year if I was OK. I honestly told her "No" but I was remembering the good.
This friend of mine...
We became quite close. At one point, we talked on the phone at least a couple of times a day. Many times much more. He wasn't the loveliest person, sometimes quite opinionated, and verbose. Many times, he didn't know when to shutup!
We shared everything...
We talked of relationships, kids, wives, family. We knew each other's hearts and thoughts. At one time, our friendship became quite strained over an occurence. It was brushed aside after a brief meeting at a candy shop of all places.
Not a day goes by that I don't think of him. I am just glad that I was able to know this person. My life is that much more full.
If it wasn't for Mickey and for this website we never would've met.
I miss him even now as I type this, warts and all.
