Subject: | Laura's Song |
Message: | Just after the new year turned I had a chat with Laura and in the midst of our talk, I said, "If I wrote a song for you to sing, what would it be about?". With no hesitation, she wrote, "...about carrying on my Dad's legacy." There aren't too many young people with as much purpose as Laura, and though she hits rough patches, she continues to show a remarkable spirit considering her loss, and has in her an old soul wisdom. When we talked about Gathering IV, we each agreed that this one is going to be a little more about a healing joy, a kind of lifting up of hearts, moving from grief and loss toward renewal and an appreciation of the family this porch has created in Mickey's name. I know the friendships here have lifted me. It took me a couple of days to get the song. I got a rehearsal of it down on cd and sent it to Laura in Michigan. We're planning to sing it in Austin this June. That'll be a fine thing. Thanks, Laura. I WILL CARRY YOU (Laura’s Song) I will carry you Everywhere I go To places new And the ones you know I’ll hold you in my heart My whole life long I’ll be your next song I will carry you I will lift you up I will guard your flame Fill the kindness cup I will keep your name I’ll lift you up Your song will never die I will hold you high I will carry you When I hold your old guitar I wonder where you are Then I touch a string And I hear you sing "Here’s to tomorrow Here’s to today Here’s to whatever we never did say" It’s a long road home But I’m with you all the way I will carry you Everywhere I go To places new And the ones you know You’ll be in my heart My whole life long I’ll be your next song I will carry you I'm gonna carry you...
