Message:  Well, hey....It's almost "Happy Breeday" which is almost any day when you're around.

Incredibly blessed really says it. To be so moved by the outpourings from his soul and then have the privilege of spending some time with him was such a gift. He mixed humor with compassion in ways that lifted you up beyond words.

On Martin Luther king Jr. Day, he was the featured artist for the two hours i have. As I wrote on the Back Porch, when you hear "Heaven Help The Child" and when you hear him tell the story of why and how he wrote "An American Trilogy...and then hear him sing those songs in the context of the day, it's quite something.

As to not breathing: He was sitting at one of the tables next to the window at the Village Green in Cottage Grove and was backlit by the afternoon Sun. Reading glasses were precariously perched on the end of his nose as he pondered his well worn notes on pieces of yellow legal pad paper.

He looked up with that sly grin and said: "Y'all want to hear a new song?"

If he had said he would like to recite the grain prices in North Dakota, we would have said: "Yes!"

"I been workin' on this one."

And he sang most of "Help Me, Son"

Like Bree, I had to remember to breathe.
