Message:  I know some of you may be wondering why we as a family are staying so silent on the issue of the gathering...

We just want to make one thing clear just so no one gets the idea that we don't care:

The gathering sprung from the desire of those who came together on this board to celebrate dad's music and to meet each other in person. They have from the beginning been organized by the porchers, whose event it rightfully is. We are so grateful for all of the time and sacrifice that has occurred to create such a wonderful event.

We, as a Newbury family, are honored and excited to come and to meet everyone and share with you the love that we have for each other and for dad and his music. We love to hear the music that others bring. It baffles me personally to think that people would sacrifice so much (like coming half way around the world, literally or figuratively) to attend and to honor him...I mean, he just worked at the golf course, right?

As a family, we love to be there. I have been so enriched by my time with you all and the friendships that have resulted.

Having said that, we recognize that the gathering does not belong to us, the Newburys (well, Granny I'm sure will make an opinion known, but as matriarch, that is her right [:D]). That was how it was viewed by dad and that is how we continue to view it. It is not ours to decide where, when, or how. If it is to survive and maintain the magic that has been generated, it must be because those who rock here choose to make it so. We will help in any way that we can, we will be there to support it, but will not make executive decisions regarding it, so I guess that it is a democracy after all.

We love you all and love to be with you. We look forward to it every year...no matter where it is.
