Here on this street, was the house that once sheltered us all.
I can still feel the love that lived in these old rotting walls.
Oh, who would have thought it could ever come tumbling down?

Nothing is certain, and certainly nothing is sure.
Only a dream, so it seems, is sure to endure.
My life is measured small bits and pieces of timeÖ
Small bits and pieces of life that perfectly rhyme.

Here, on this street, is the house that once sheltered us all.
Oh, I can still hear the laughter that once followed me down the hall.
Who would have thought it could ever have come tumbling down?
This is my childhoodÖ..

Oh, nothing is certain, and certainly nothing is sure.
Only a dream, so it seems, will be sure to endure.
My life is measured small bits and pieces of timeÖ
Small bits and pieces of life that perfectly rhyme.

116 Westfield Street.

Happy Birthday, Mick. Thanks for the love and the laughter...

Ainít no blues today
Wee Willieís gone away
And black has turned to grey
Ainít no blues today

Ainít no jazz today
Not on Bourbon Street L-A
And what would Satchmo say
Man there ainít no jazz today

But wasnít Lefty right
When he turned on his light
Yes he was out of site
Ah wasnít lefty right

So long Frizzell
You were not for sale
I know it was hell
So long Frizzell

Ah I love the country song
That brightens up the day
If he could sing the way itís gone
I just know ole Hank would say

Ainít no news today
Ainít nothing new to say
And ah but everythingís OK
The musicís here to stay

At then end of night, when the lights are at last turned down low, the grand room and the hallways are empty. We can still faintly hear the minstrel's song that haunts us all. This is what we each know and feel, our last thought before we drift off to our sleep.

There is no song, outside those created by Mickey himself that is truly able to express ourselves and our feelings...as friends...as family...of Mickey Newbury.

I met him in Nashville...he was working at his trade
A dreamer and a good one... I listened while he played
And I swore I almost saw her as he sang of Angelene
And I came to hear the music when I heard Newbury sing

He sang a tale of L.A. ... and a boy who lost his way
We hopped a train in Georgia.. two thousand miles we came
Then he paused to light a Camel and with a twinkle in his eye
He said "Don't write what you don't know son, they'll know it when you lie"

A few weeks back I saw him... the poet looked his age
The students all fell silent as the teacher took the stage
And I swore I almost saw her as he sang of Geneveve
And I came to hear the music... I came to face the music
I came to love the music... when I heard Newbury sing

Do the cowboys still sit with their backs to the wall
Do the drifters still answer the highwaymanís call
Do the old hobos still cook their beans in a tin
Do the sailors still cast their fates to the wind

Are the villains in black hats are the heroes in white
Are there sock-hoppiní rock and rolliní Saturday nights
Would a Ď49 Mercury still be outía sight
Well that was the way it was then

You were like Natalie I was James Dean
Slow walkiní soft talkiní silently mean
Surely that rebel in my lives again
But now Iím without a cause to be all caught up in

Oh the blacks have their freedom
And the reds are our friends
And we ended a war we could not seem to win
And the folk singerís out on his ass once again
My the times they have changed

Itís a quarter to ten and I am lyiní in bed
Spinniní that old memory thing in my head
The times were so good and the songs were so sad
It was a game we would play feeliní good feeliní bad

Thereís a girl I remember, now what was her name
Why we made love all night in one hell of a rain
Well maybe ten minutes how time then would fly
It will never be that way againÖ

Walk me through the blinding snow
Take me where the sun wonít go
Shallow waters never flow
Slowly to the sea

Walk me through the dry hot sand
Steal my cup but fill my hand
Leave me where the valley can
Rock my soul back to sleep

Where the mighty winds lie still
Ever silence on the hill
Cradled by the mountain Ďtil
The Father welcomes me

Lay me down on the verdant green
At the breast of the mother spring
With one song I can sing
One that I can keep

Let me sleep

Sun come up
Sun go down
My last night on the town
I tell myself that every time
My word ainít worth one thin dime
I need a down Ďn dirty honky tonkiní song
So wonít you chill me out
and haul my body homeÖ

...there was a time
when the sun goin' down
frightened me

alone
on a back road on my way
back to Tennessee

just out of Monroe one night God
I thought I was gone.............

I cried
I've run out of time
if I only had known.........

.........yesterday's newspapers
.........forecast some rain for today...

Hi Craig,
maybe, maybe not, I've got it tattooed on my arm.
Crazy? maybe, maybe not.

I was listening to LRH today. all the way through. I couldn't help but think, how Mickey's music impacts upon someone at a certain time in someone's life.
for me it was when I was 21 years old.

funny how some life experieces that happen to you at a young age seem to stay with you for all eternity.

I often wonder if I would have turned out to be any different if I had never heard the music.

maybe,it was meant to be. Mickey was born at a certain time, and so were all of us. we have therefore been fortunate enough to have heard the music as it was born, so to speak.

I am grateful, that I discovered Mickey Newbury.

discovery is the key.

it is through my personal discovery, that the music has more heavily impacted upon me.

any personal invitation to hear the music, unfortunately lessons the impact.

and maybe that is why, Mickey's music is so special. it means a great deal to those who have personally discoverd Mickey Newbury.

'Maybe'

As I said before, "there are no coincidences on the Newbury website".

"Time, it is a circle, and a circle has no end."

Things just keep coming back to us ...... over and over.

Heaven please send to all mankind
Some understanding and peace of mind
But if itís not asking too much
Wonít you please send me someone to love

Iíd show the world how to get along
Peace will enter where all hate has gone
But if itís not asking too much
Wonít you please send me someone to love

I lay awake at night I see a world so troubled
And my answerís still the same
Unless man donít put an end to his terrible terrible sins
Well hateís gonna put the world in a flame and what a shame

Just because Iím in misery
Well I donít beg for no sympathy
But if itís not asking too much
Wonít you please send me someone to love

Dizzy Lizzy do you remember
That big Joe copped the night and stole the show
They say Clyde is back but heís not a drifter
Without love good God where will he go

But itís all right with me
If itís all right with you
Cause Iím just a kid of seventeen
And rock and roll ainít nothing
But the blues with a beat

Dizzy Lizzy do you remember
How Johnny pledged his love to you and me
But he was not unlike this ofay ember
When they want blood someoneís got to bleed

But itís all right with me
If itís all right with you
Cause Iím just a kid of seventeen
And rock and roll ainít nothing
But the blues with a beat

Well he stepped on stage
The house went silent
King George the Fourth mocked someone from the crowd
Lizzy do they hear a word heís saying
Or is the music just too loud

Well itís all right with me
If itís all right with you
But Iím not a kid of seventeen
And rock and roll was nothing
But the blues with a beatÖ

Itís all right with me
If itís all right with you
Cause Iím just a kid of seventeen
And rock and roll ainít nothing
But the blues with a beat

You got to roll in when the tide is ridiní high
Roll out when the sun is in the sky
Roll on when the water well runs dry
Donít ask me why Iím leaviní baby
Bye bye baby bye

I woke up this morniní I looked all around
So broken hearted I had to lay back down
Found her closet empty there upon the bed
I picked up this note she wrote and this is what she said

You got to roll in when the tide is ridiní high
Roll out when the sun is in the sky
Roll on when the water well runs dry
Donít ask me why Iím leaviní baby
Bye bye baby bye

Trash in the corner clothes are on the floor
Stack of bills get higher but I donít works no more
Darliní Iím sorry if I have been unkind
When you read this letter try to read between the lines

I suppose itís over think of me sometime
Truly blue and you are words a fool would only rhyme
And the moral to this story is if you donít love the blues
You do not choose to gamble when you cannot stand to lose
