"Hop in," he says. His elbow out the window. His fast foot tapping the floor. Sunset slides across the windshield. He follows the red X's right off the page. His foolproof map of escape. Later when he falls asleep at the wheel she nudges him awake. He opens his eyes. He smiles and nods. "For my next trick..." he says, and winks. |

I hit this one dead center... I gave it my best shot that ever killed a man but it did not even sting this woman...
I can make a tame woman wild but I Apparently cannot make a wild woman tame...
Oh well, it is her loss....
Melinda will come back to me even if the one I want
doesn't or won't...

She watches The Magician step to the foot of the stage. Sees the hopefuls in the front row lean closer. Knows it's his cracked-in-half laughter that saves them all. He tosses the Life Preserver into the crowd. Picks up the saw and moves forward. Her pins-and-needle sleeping limbs. Her wide open unblinking eyes. The Shaman in the parking lot is lighting small fires when the limo driver drops his last fare. The lobstermen on wet decks are hauling in full pots of November. The pedestaled Life Guards gaze out upon the camouflage sea. Their neon trunks and zinc oxide noses a beacon for thoses in the undertow. "Pixels," The Magician warns, and begins sawing, "too close to the big picture to see." |

a poet is somebody who feels, and who expresses his feeling through words. this may sound easy. it isn't. almost anybody can learn to think or believe or know, but not a single human being can be taught to feel. why? because whenever you think or you believe or you know, you're a lot of other people; but the moment you feel, you're nobody-but-yourself.

Mantis praying at my door. Winter's way is soon to come. North wind blowing in a cold spell. Geese are calling in the moonlit night. The Fall, my most favorite time of the year.

As I stepped out into the Newly cold air I smelled a fireplace and Thought of Other Novembers... Jesse ran off for the Cavalry When he was just eighteen And Carmelita, well, Carmelita she just kind of Flew away one morning... I've said it before, but Some choices just kinda Get made For us... But tonight, I spread my arms to the Starry November sky and I scream out for the strength to Choose to be sober for Just one more day...

Autumn The leaves are falling, falling as if from far up, as if orchards were dying high in space. Each leaf falls as if it were motioning "no."
And tonight the heavy earth is falling away from all other stars in the loneliness.
We're all falling. This hand here is falling. And look at the other one. It's in them all.
And yet there is Someone, whose hands infinitely calm, holding up all this falling.
Rainer Maria Rilke

"What is a saint? A saint is someone who has achieved a remote human possibility. It is impossible to say what that possibility is. I think that it has something to do with the energy of love. Contact with this energy results in the exercise of a kind of balance in the chaos of existence. A saint does not dissolve the chaos; if he did the world would have changed long ago. I do not think that a saint dissolves the chaos even for himself, for there is something arrogant and warlike in the notion of a man setting the universe in order. It is a kind of balance that is his glory. He rides the drifts like an escaped ski. His course is the caress of the hill. His track is a drawing of the snow in a moment of its particular arrangement with wind and rock.
"Something in him so loves the world that he gives himself to the laws of gravity and chance. Far from flying with angels, he traces with the fidelity of a seismograph needle the state of the solid bloody landscape. His house is dangerous and finite, but he is at home in the world. He can love the shape of human beings, the fine and twisted shapes of the heart. It is good to have among us such men, such balancing monsters of love."
Leonard Cohen from his second novel, "Beautiful Losers" (1966)

NIGHTLY VIGIL NOV 23
Today I turn 85...
I chase the turkey as Melinda and Rebecca chase me, laughing [They're gettin along tonite...] Rudy, Mick and Duke are here, Waiting for the food [No weapons or songwriting allowed] Duke's looking for where I hid Clay's gun... Rudy says, Where'd that damn horse go? Mick chuckles, I sent the poor bastard Out looking for where I hid the wind... Some crazy cowboy tried to shoot it down last nite So I put it in a safe place for the Holy Day...
Ah, Family......

They've all left me now except for Mick...
We go to that place that is so familiar to us both... The darkness takes on a different color now, Talking about my memories of a future with Rebecca...
Mick has lots to say, What to leave in what to leave out, Rewrite, boy, rewrite or sometimes Hell, just leave it alone...
I hold him to me, as a man, as a friend And feel his frailness and his strength, both... I ask him to stay and He says, Didn't you know? It's forever for those like us, Just forever.............
For Ever, Mick, Thank you....

His eyes like stars, like scimitars. His heavy, silver hair. He's at the end of a long story. Far-fetched edges. Six wet miles at low tide. All those fractured wishes glittering along the highway. US 101's broken glass above them. There's the moon, now. In it's sky-locked cradle. Alight over the contradictive Pacific sea. They're sitting at the long table. Hands folded in thanksgiving. They've been sitting there a thousand years. Light melts in sooty globes around them. Ailinn Swinger
774 Posts Posted - 11/23/2006 : 14:34:05 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stars on the floor when he opens the door ready to tell the whole story. "Pages and pages of dreams," he says. "Guard your heart, now!" he cautions, and draws the torn shawl across her cold shoulders. There's the moon's crazed porcelain cup up over the treetops. The reluctant, high thin clouds. The pointed star only he can inviolably follow. He slips his warm palm under her elbow. Takes her into the sky. She has bells on her shoes. Fastened with invisible fishline. They leave a small music on the smoke-filled air. An owl blinks in a eucalyptus tree. "See how each leaf dreams it's own divine dream," he says. Down the sand-blown road the coast curves and glitters. O, dangerous midnights inventing the alphabet. Her hijacked heart. His black leather satchel on fire. Her counterfeit pen leaking it's blue infusion on the floor. His name and dark sail still a mystery.
