How I long to be in those East Texas woods I would be in those old piney woods if I could On a hot summer mornin' down Centerville Way the windows rolled down in my old Chevrolet
Cruisin' the backroads with nothin' but time three nickels short of having a dime miles from the highway, no hill left to climb Me and the whisperin' pine
..I remember..

This is tomorrow. |

Ah the rednecks are drawin' Their lines in East Tennessee Their cannons are primed And they're fit to be tied I believe
The man in the grey flannel suit Does not walk on the street Say does anyone know What became of the old Opry
The outlaws are taking An axe to the old hangin' tree Traded their guns for a guitar and two lids of tea
They swear in a slow Texas drawl All the killin' is done I believe them by God But I'm keepin' my back to the sun
Tomorrow is out of sight Yesterday's dead and gone You never knew how right you were The night you wrote that song
A truck drivin' man makes his stop Where the coffee is free El Paso this morning Tonight it will be Tennessee
Spends all his miles On the dials of a poppin' CB Does anyone know What became of ole Ralph Emery
The blacks and chicanos Are telling the indians how The white eye is the devil It looks like one hell of a row
Shaking my head I retreat From the sacred pow wow I am marching on Ireland It is making some sense to me now
Yesterdays news is old news The skies are all gray

Posted - 04/23/2012 : 19:11:47 Well at times I feel I need the rain At time's I need the sun Pleasure is a thread of pain When it is undone
My moments of insanity Are never like a chain I only know I am not free The nights when I am sane
So do not be concerned my love If you see me cry For the laughter does not Choose to free The happiness inside
Just as there may seem to be A smile that's out of place It only means there is a pain That hurts too much to face

Posted - 09/26/2011 : 18:33:59 I came to hear the music... And to love all that came as well. We've lost something along the way, We don't have much to say... For now.
The magic is here...if we look for it. It doesn't take much effort. Just look inside. It is still there, In us.

Posted - 10/19/2010 : 05:51:17 My it’s been a long long time Funny things I have treasured in my mind Are like the closin’ of a door It don’t matter anymore
All the friends I thought I knew They dwindle down now to a precious few Feel like an aging L.A. whore It don’t matter anymore
Takin’ it in watchin’ a willow freely Bend in the wind turning so ever slowly Into the end honey don’t no one know me Not the way you do
Oh it’s been a long long time Funny thing how you could always read my mind Turn out the lights and close the door It don’t matter anymore

Posted - 06/05/2010 : 08:21:15 Walk me through the blindin' snow Take me where the sun won't go Shallow waters never flow Slowly to the sea
Walk me through the dry hot sand Steal my cup but fill my hand Leave me where the valley can Rock my soul back to sleep
Where the mighty winds lie still Ever silence on the hill Cradled by the mountain til The Father welcomes me
And lay me down in the verdent green At the breast of the mother spring With a song that I can sing One that I can keep Let me sleep

Bill.. I think of all Mickey's lyrics, these may be my favorite. Especially with his voice, melody, delivery and what those four lines say..

Posted - 12/24/2008 : 07:22:38 Yes Joey, 'lost' is a wonderful expression. Mickey's voice, even late in his career, still had that special sound. It could still melt your heart and caress your soul.
...I love to hear him hold each note, right to the very end. ...magic.
