I spoke with Mickey about how keen the commercial music industry was to categorize or pigeonhole singers/songwriters.

Mickey was a folk singer in the sense that his songs were for, and about, the folk that he knew or came across and that he wanted to tell us (the other folk in his circle) about.

Like all great writers his work defies any narrow or simplistic characterization: I was astounded by Mickey's modesty and self-deprecation; Mickey remains the greatest songwriter I have ever heard.
