||I'm so easy. A few months before Mickey Newbury passed away and he was on his way to Texas, he called me ( He sounded like an old man and I did not know who he was ) and told me that he was a man from Idaho and he just wanted to tell me how much he liked my writings. We talked for a few minutes and then hung up. I told Suzette Moore about the call and she asked if I still had his phone number on caller ID. I checked and it said MAMIE NEWBURY! I called him back and called him a bunch of not so nice names, as he died laughing in the background. " When are you going to come see me?" he asked. I jokingly said never.
Fast forward about 11 years to this morning. Phone rings, I answer, and on the other end of the phone, I hear " Mr. Moore, this is Sheriff ( whatever)" and I was calling about that red light that you ran the other night" I immediately remembered triggering a red light camera, in Conroe, when we took Karley to see the play, Wizard of Oz. Man I started throwing out excuse after excuse, just knowing that I had been caught. Then the laughing starts and I realized that it wasn't a cop at all. It was JERRY NEWBURY! As he laughed he turned the phone over to Mamie Newbury. Her first words... " When are you going to come see me?"
Must be a family thing.
