This sounds a lot like Janet. She had never seen a live armadillo before, only the dead ones along side the road. This was number of years ago mind you, but one night we were driving along and lo and behold! She cries out, "Look! A live one!" Which then promptly ran into the path of our car...

Now surely you've seen her armadillo purse, haven't you?
